Adventurous Rainy Day with a Transient Orca and Humpbacks!

What an adventurous day! Captain Brian, Captain Erick and suited everyone up and headed out in the rain! I was very impressed with everyone as we faced the rain and headed up full speed to Canada.

As we approached the border, we saw a lone transient orca whale! He was in Canada so we were not allowed to approach closer but eventually he turned and headed closer towards our direction! It was amazing to watch him gently swim through these northern waters, casually perusing the open waters.

Eventually, we turned and headed back down towards the harbor, passing a beautiful lighthouse in the distance. Then, right near Friday Harbor we saw a mother and calf humpback whale! Two humpback whales swimming in pretty shallow water. Then, suddenly the calf starting thrashing around, showing us his tail and pectoral flippers and rolling around! He was so cute! Our theory was that he was trying to nurse as he popped up and down. It was so fun to watch him flashing his white underside.

The weather had calmed down a bit and a incredibly strange fog floated near the water. There was an extremely strange fog formation that created a massive archway over a nearby rock. Super strange. But very beautiful.

We slowly boated away and found a bald eagle sitting up in a tree, surveying the area for any prey.

Finally, we cruised back into the harbor.

What a cool day!
