Perfect day out today!
Captain Pete and I jumped on the boat and headed north through the San Juan Channel. Heading up near Canada, we stopped by Flattop Island and checked out a whole group of Harbor Seals lounging in the water. Their beady little eyes stared up at us from the surface as they sleepily enjoyed the warm day.
Then, we saw 4 bald eagles! They all perched high in the treetops as they surveyed their surroundings in search for their next meal. Beautiful birds! The juvenile leapt off and showed us his 7-foot-wide wingspan!
As we continued, we boated along the southside of Spieden Island and saw loads of Mouflon sheep grazing and climbing down the cliffside to drink from the freshwater springs.
Then, we spotted the orca whales! We identified then as the T46Bs! One of my favorite families, we watched as the 5 whales elegantly pierced through the choppy waves. Some of us got splashed on the bow but no one seemed to mind as we admired the gorgeous whales. The matriarch led her daughters and baby whale as they searched the area for food.
We spotted a scared little harbor seal floating at the surface. He was definitely in the danger zone but looks like he avoided being eaten!
Then, just as we were about to leave, the orcas took a sudden turn and came to say hi to our vessel! They swam right in front of our bow as we shut our engines down and everyone gasped with excitement.
What a great way to end the trip!
Thank you to all my wonderful guests with great questions.
What a day.
