A Fantastic Look at J-Pod- Starring Onyx!

What a nice day we had on the water today!  Captain Pete, Alex, and myself hit the water for a beautiful trip.  As we were heading out we knew that it was going to be a beautiful day, but we couldn’t have predicted just how nice it would be!

We were treated to some views of seals as we headed north up San Juan Channel, and worked our way to where we had received reports of orca sightings.  As a special and lucky treat today we had Resident Orcas to look at!  As we got on scene we quickly realized that there were multiple groups of Ressies in the area.  We had some bit north of us that we were trailing and we had some south of us.  At one point as the individual groups caught up to us we were quite literally surrounded by orcas!

There were gorgeous male dorsal fins that soared above the others, and we got some amazing looks at them.  A few times we even had them surface near us making for the perfect photo opportunity!

Onyx surfaced off the port side of our vessel, Sea Lion, and in an incredible treat we were able to hear the exhalations of this amazing whale as they surfaced.  It was quite an amazing sight to see!

After we hung out with this amazing group of orcas we slowly started our trek back, but made sure to check out more cool animals and islands.  Most notably was our stop at Speiden Island, where we were able to check out some Mouflon Sheep and Sitka and Fallow Deer.

It ended up being a truly awesome trip!
