Captain Mike and myself boarded M/V Sea Lion with some very kind and awesome guests this afternoon as we headed out to see what cool critters we could find! The crazy thing about today was that there was so much fog! At certain points we couldn't even see land! This sometimes happens in the fall months, but what a cool experience it was to be out there! Luckily the second half of the trip brought some amazing views and we were able to enjoy a beautiful look at Mt. Baker the whole trip back!
We got to see a myriad of different animals while out on the water today! The trip started out by getting to see some incredible Steller Sea Lions off of Green Point. They were swimming and splashing and putting on quite a great show! Afterwards we headed down the rest of Spieden Island and were treated to not one, not two but FIVE Bald Eagles! It was amazing!
After checking out Spieden Island we headed over to some Harbor Seals hauled out on Sentinel Rocks. Then headed north to Turn Point. Since it was still fairly foggy we decided to stop the engines for 5-10 minutes and listen (rather than look) to see if we could hear anything. It was amazing to be out on the water with such stillness and silence!
After heading over to White Rock and checking out more Harbor Seals, and 2 more Bald Eagles we slowly headed down south in San Juan Channel. Before we could get back to Friday Harbor we were met with a gigantic group of very friendly Harbor porpoise! It was amazing! I've never had a trip were there were so many and so friendly! Hearing their exhalations as they surfaced was incredible!
We then headed back to Friday Harbor, enjoying what had turned out to be a beautiful, sunny afternoon!
Until Next Time,
