What a great day we had! As we started out on our trip this cool fall day we knew it would be a fun trip! We had reports of Resident Orcas on the West Side of San Juan Island, so naturally Captain Mike headed up through San Juan Channel to meet up with those orcas! On our way we swung by Spieden Island and got some great looks at some Fallow and Sika deer as they were running and frolicking on the hillside- they were very fun to watch!
We continued over to our report of orcas and were lucky enough to spend a nice amount of time with them. It was like a parade of orcas that kept passing by! We got numerous looks at different individuals- including some massive dorsal fins! We even got some tail lobs and spy hops as these orcas surfaced! It was awesome!
On our way back we knew we wanted to find some Harbor Seals (AKA Rock Sausages) so Captain Mike was intentional about making sure everyone on board got their wish! We checked out a few of the islands north of San Juan and found plenty of happy Rock Sausages hauled out on the rocky islands!
What a great trip- we can never complain when we see more orcas than we knew what to do with, as well as many happy Harbor Seals!
Until Next Time,
