MV Kestrel | Naturalist Alexandria | Monday, July 5th
Today was an awesome day out on the water! Captain Sarah and myself were very excited to get out on the water today and knew it would be an awesome day full of great wild life but we had no idea how awesome our orca encounters were going to be!
We left Friday Harbor and headed north, knowing that it was a bit windier of a day and wanting to ensure that our guests stayed as comfy as possible! Throughout the trip we were able to stop by Spieden Island and see some of the deer and sheep that live on the island- all of them exotic species from other countries! We also got to see some eagles and an eagle nest on Flattop Island, and of course so many harbor seals!
But of course one of the most noteworthy things we got to see were orcas! We were lucky enough to get to hang out with some Biggs Killer whales while out on the water today! It appeared like there were 5 individuals in this group and looked to be the T046Bs. We were so lucky to spend a nice amount of time with these gorgeous animals and got some incredible looks as they surfaced while traveling north up San Juan Channel.
Any day out here is always gorgeous but today was definitely memorable!
Until Next Time,
