M/V Sea Lion- 9/2 @ 1:30pm
Yesterday guests aboard M/V Sea Lion were treated to the trifecta! As we were heading out Captain Gabe, Naturalist Erick and myself were all excited to hit the water! It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, the smoke from the BC fires in weeks prior had since cleared, and it was a perfect day! To top it off we even had reports of orcas in our range… and not just any orcas, they were Southern Resident Killer Whales (SRKWs)! As Captain Gabe shared this information with everyone onboard upon boarding, he exclaimed that the whole crew was incredibly excited because SRKWs were always such a treat to see out on the water, especially J Pod!
We headed out to the West Side and were enthusiastically joined by many different individuals from J-Pod, guests got lots of photos, and some amazing views as a larger male swam right by us!
Having had an awesome encounter with whales, we didn’t expect that anything else could top it, but as we were heading back to happened upon a Humpback whale! We stayed with it for a few surfaces and then headed over to Whale Rocks to see if we could find some Steller Sea Lions!
After hanging out with those entertaining Stellers, we continued to Turn Rocks and caught some looks at some Harbor Seals before heading back to the docks in Friday Harbor! Making the perfect day even better!
