M/V Sea Lion- April 4th, 2018
What a fantastic day we had on the water for our Trip on M/V Sea Lion this Wednesday! The acitivity on the water was affectionately referred to it as a “T- Party”- and was it ever! Everyone on our trip was so excited to be treated to over 25 Transient Orcas on the water!
It started out a bit chilly but everyone on board M/V Sea Lion for our trip was in exceptional spirits! We all happily dawned our incredibly fashionable yellow rain slickers provided by Naturalist Sarah, Piper and myself, and set forth on what would prove to be an amazing day!
We first checked out some awesome Steller Sea Lion off Spieden Island, and then continued forth on our search for orcas! As we continued sailing North we saw an orca breach ahead of us, and as we all excitedly hurried over to catch another glimpse we were shocked to see that there were indeed over 20 other Transient Orcas swimming in the water around us! Captain Brian carefully and cautiously brought us to a safe and respectful spot to watch as these amazing creatures swam, breached, and tail lobbed around us!
Everyone had trouble deciding which way to look! Off our starboard side we were treated to the T2c’s as they joined the rest of the group and swam and played amongst the T-Party! The highlight for many on our trip had to be T49A1 though- affectionately referred to as “Bob” throughout our trip! Bob appeared on the port side of our vessel and we were all taken back by the massiveness of this teenagers dorsal fin! Bob must have decided he liked us, because he must have stayed with us for a good 30 mins or so, treating us all to amazing views of him swimming, playing and hunting!
When in was eventually time for us to head out, everyone on board waved goodbye to “Bob” as he surfaced one final time to say goodbye to everyone onboard M/V Sea Lion. It truly was a fantastic trip- and a very enjoyable T-Party with Bob!
Until next time,
