Today's adventure tour headed south into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. On our journey towards the Olympic Peninsula, our passengers braved sea spray and choppy waters as we soared through the smoky haze. Just a few miles from Dungeness Spit, We witnessed a large group of Bigg's killer whales from the T34 family and the T37 family swimming quickly amidst the waves. We even got to see some porpoising, which is when a marine mammal launches itsself partially out of the water in order to increase its speed while traveling. After spending a nice long while watching these majestic creatures, we headed back north. Across the channel from Cattle Point Light House, we spent some time with a group of Steller's sea lions. Many of the large males were fighting over territory while another group was playing in the bull kelp nearby. We also got to see porpoising behavior from these sea lions. Something must be in the water, because everyone was on the move today. Finally, we passed by a beatiful adult bald eagle on our way back into Friday Harbor.
