Morning and Afternoon Trips with Southern Resident and Transient Whales! | 07/27/2018 | 10:00 & 2:00

Jordan | July 27, 2018 | M/V Sea Lion | 10:00 & 2:00 trips

Today was another long and but successful day out on the water with our whales!

On our first trip, there were multiple reports of whales around the San Juan Island. Captain Gabe and I set out of Friday Harbor to find some wildlife! We headed south through the San Juan Channel, through Cattle Pass. We found the Southern Resident whales off the southeast side of San Juan Island. Here we found the J17s and J19s who were perusing the shoreline for salmon. After watching their beauty for a while we decided to head up towards Canada to find some Transient whales!

As we headed into international waters we found some rocks with harbor seals and pups! These cuties were flopping all about their tiny sanctuary as some of their friends swam about with their little volleyball shaped heads bobbing at the surface.

We voyaged all the way to Vancouver Island off of Zero Rocks where we found the T99s! These majestic animals were traveling close to the shoreline looking for a marine mammal meal! It was wonderful watching them in their natural habitat as their biggest fans watched them from the boats.

On our second trip we headed north past Spieden Island. Here we saw some exotic mouflon sheep bounding across the fields and a few bald eagles perched as a couple in a tree! Then we boated past Stuart Island and up the west side of Salt Spring Island where we found the T99s and watched the beautiful creatures traveling close to shore. We even saw a couple moments of thrashing as the whales chased some seals that were hidden in the depths! Then we saw a whale do a headstand! Her whole body came out of the water except for her head!

What a wonderful day out on the water.
